About By the Book

Read reviews about books, audiobooks and more, by the staff at Rogers Memorial Library, in Southampton, New York!  Contributors to this blog include  librarians in the Reference Department, who are enthusiastic readers of both fiction and nonfiction.  By the Book @ Rogers Memorial Library highlights individual titles, authors, and thematic groupings of books, as well as book discussions and literary programs offered at the library.

Beth manages the Long Island Collection, runs the Summer Reading Program for adults, and leads an evening book discussion group at the library that meets on a monthly basis.  She also serves on the Long Island Reads committee.  Beth reads historical fiction, as well as nonfiction that reads like fiction.  One of her favorite hobbies is to “book spy” — checking out what strangers are reading on buses, trains, or other public spaces.

Terry manages the NextReads email newsletters that showcase different fiction and nonfiction titles each month.  She also facilitates the Rogers Mystery Lovers book discussion group, which meets on a monthly basis.  Terry reads all kinds of books, but she especially loves mysteries.  She is an amateur “book whisperer” and loves to match readers with books.

Elizabeth runs the Winter Reading Program for adults.  She also manages the Once Upon a Time…a Story Time for Grown-ups monthly program, featuring traditional and contemporary takes on fairy tales.  She loves all kinds of different fiction — everything from thrillers and women’s fiction to short stories, literary fiction and audiobooks — and also nonfiction.  She especially enjoys discovering new authors by reading first novels.

Alexis works in the Circulation Department and is an avid reader.   She enjoys horror and fantasy (especially Stephen King and Anne Rice).  To balance out all the “scary stuff,” she switches gears to read inspirational memoirs and
wellness/improvement books.  Alexis also loves to peruse the newest healthy cookbooks for fresh ideas.

Marie teaches Computer Classes at the library.  Some of her reading follows domestic hobbies, such as knitting, gardening and cooking, but she also enjoys visiting exotic places by reading travelogues and thrillers.
